RAINER MARIA RILLE
Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) is regarded by most critics as the greatest German lyric poet of modern times. After world War I, he produced his two greatest books of poems, Duino Elegies and Sonnets to Orpheus. Early in his career, he also wrote several excellent short stories . His well-known prose poem, “The Cornet,” became a bestseller in its second edition of 1912.
