A daily routine of Singapore students begin by reporting to school between 7.20 a.m. to 7.40 a.m. (depends on school) but usually before 8 a.m., recess and lessons end between 1.30 p.m. to 2 p.m. But most of Singaporean children learning session do not end there. After class, they will have either remedial or home tuition and one day in a week for Co-curricular activities (CCA), non-academic activities to enhance leadership, self-discipline and confidence. They spend most of their times learning and it is normal to see tuition centres, freelance tutor and places selling past-year exam papers and assessments papers everywhere. After-school lessons are common here, partially because both parents are normally busy working as cost of living in Singapore is very high. Children are normally done with their daily schedule around 6 in the evening whilst parents are done with their works too (unless they are not working office hours).
National University of Singapore (NUS) ranks 26 in Worldwide University rankings 2015-2016. Students here do study really hard and spend most of the time learning, it would not be a surprise if a lot of top students or schools are from Singapore.
