Inspect areas where chemicals are stored and handled to determine if emergency showers and eyewashes are provided. This emergency equipment must be accessible by a clear path of travel, clearly visible and within a reasonable travel distance. Travel distance to an eyewash station where corrosive materials are handled should not exceed 10 feet. Test a sample of these showers to determine if water flow is clean and of sufficient volume. Temperature controls are required in areas where the water is likely to be excessively hot or cold. A range of 60 degrees to 105 degrees Fahrenheit is acceptable. Review inspection records to verify that all showers and eyewashes are inspected at least monthly. Other emergency equipment such as fire blankets or stretchers must also be in good condition and unobstructed.
