Trees in the household economy. In agroforestry, however, little work has
been done to understand how, where, and why farmers grow trees. Recent
findings suggest that farmers' land management strategies may involve the
simultaneous use of many different tree species and agroforestry technologies
for different "niches" in the farm landscape, for varying commercial and
subsistence purposes. Different types of land users may use different niches
for different purposes, using different management practices [Rocheleau,
1987].
