There were 155 surveys submitted with responses.
The individual respondents represented acute care,
academia, ambulatory settings, and nursing informatics.
The majority (47%) were chief NEs (16%
CNEs and 31% chief nursing officers [CNOs]). There
were 29% from academia as deans or program directors.
Nurses whowere chief operating officers (COOs)
and chief executive officers (CEOs) also participated
(4%). In addition to position titles of CEO, COO,
CNE, CNO, dean, and director, which were the survey
choices, there were quite a variety of job titles for
executive-level leaders. For example, the title of associate
director in an academic medical center might be
used for the individual who is the CNE. The title manager
might be used in an ambulatory setting for the
highest-level nurse administrator. Accordingly, there
