Objective: To investigate the toxicity of different pesticides on Thrips flavidulus, and to screen high efficient and low toxicity pesticides for control of thrips in the citrus orchards. Method: The toxicity of 8 kinds of pesticides on thrips (Thrips flavidulus) was determined using filter paper residue method, and the field control test was carried out in the orchard as well. Result: The toxicity bioassay of 8 kinds of pesticides revealed that chlorpyrifos showed the highest virulence to the T. flavidulus's adult and nymph, and LC50 was 0.72 mg.L-1 and 0.69 mg.L-1 respectively. Abamectin also showed the lethal effects on adult and nymph of T. flavidulus with LC50 0.97 mg.L-1 and 0.99 mg.L-1 respectively. The field control effects indicated that the best timing for preventing the occurrence of thrips was during flowering and after flowering. Conclusion: Among the several tested pesticides, our results suggested that abamectin and acetamiprid, as the biogenic pesticides with little pollution to the environment, both have more than 80% of control effect against T. flavidulus. So abamectin and acetamiprid could be used as the major pesticides in practice.
