The U.S. auto industry has made a comeback, with vehicle sales in 2012 the highest they have been since since 2007. American car manufacturers have made vehicles that consumers want to own by improving gas mileage and adding bells and whistles that were once only available in high-end luxury models. A 2010 report by research firm Worldwatch Institute cited the U.S. among the top four auto manufacturers worldwide, suggesting that American-made vehicles are in just as much demand as their Chinese, Japanese and German counterparts.
