Students with learning disabilities are attending community colleges and fouryear
universities in greater numbers than ever before. Post-secondary education is better
prepared to accommodate and serve the needs of LD students. However, if LD students
do not understand their disability and know the accommodations that will help them to be
successful, they will not know how to take advantage of the resources available to them.
There are many high-profile examples of successful adults who have learning disabilities,
such as Richard Branson, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, and Tom Cruise, but their
stories are about how they succeeded in spite of discouraging and embarrassing school
experiences.
This study has shown that students are interested in learning about their disability
