The picture here show some of the different arts from around the world. China and India are very large countries with many millions of people living in them. They are two of the oldest and most important countries of asia.
It often helps to look at works of art to find out what happened in earlier times. Sometimes, looking at the way a work of art is made can explain, events in history. Picture 6 (opposite) shows a small painting, called a miniatures, made in India around 1590. It is very like the miniatures made about the same time in nearby Persia (today called Iran). The gives a clue as to what had happened. Persians had invaded parts of India and set up the Mogul Empire. They brought with them their ideas on how to make pictures.
Picture 7 shows a beautiful garden in a palace at the Alhambra, in Granada, Spain. The garden was laid out by the Moors. They were an Islamic people who ruled Spain for hundreds of years. The palaces of the Alhambra still show the Moorish influence, especially in the wonderful use of water in courtyards and gardens.
