Then in the late 1970s along came the television show WKRP in Cincinnati about a lovable cast of characters employed in a third-rock-and-roll FM radio station. One character who was arguably not so lovable was Herb Tarleck, sales manager for WKRP. Throughout the series, Herb was played as a back-slapping, white-shoe-and-polyester-suit-wearing buffoon who exhibited questionable ethics and made sales only through pure luck. The show was a top draw during much of its four-year run from 1978 to 1982, and Herb’s image has never fully vanished view because of reruns on cable channels.
