This study protocol describes a study to test the effectiveness
of an intervention aimed at reducing alcohol use
and specifically binge drinking in 16 to 18 year old
Dutch adolescents. Reducing alcohol use at an adolescent
age is of particular importance, not only because of
the immediate dangerous consequences of alcohol, like
getting into fights or unwanted pregnancies [3,4], but
also to reduce the risk of long term damages of the brain
[7] and reducing the risk of becoming alcohol dependent
later in life [39,40]. So, reducing alcohol use at an adolescent
age also reduces the risk of more long-term public
health problems.
