Thailand trims current domestic sugar quota
Thailand’s Office of Cane and Sugar Board has cut the country’s domestic sugar quota for 2013-2014 by 100,000mt to 2.4 million mt, saying domestic consumption was not as high as expected earlier, Reuters reports. In consequence, exports are exported to rise to a record 8.8 million, the OCSB head said. The OSCB had previously forecast exports in 2014 at 8 million to 9 million mt, up from 6 million mt a year earlier. (2 September 2014)
