For both, platforms and applications, it is important to
react adaptable on changes in the underlying network. If the
mobile device moves from an area where 3G is available
to an area where the lower-bandwidth network EDGE is
available, the application either has to react on this in a well
determined way or it has to switch the network in a way
that the user does not notice. Another adaptable feature of
mobile platforms and applications is their ability to flexibly
adapt to switches between different input methods (e.g. user
switches from touch display to sliding or external connected
keyboard) and different orientations (e.g. rotating the mobile
device to horizontal orientation, for better readability of web
pages that are not optimized for mobile devices - which
applies to most of the available web pages today).
