Paul Graves-Brown studied archaeology at Sheffield (1983-86) and Southampton (1986-90). Originally a pre-historian (human origins), he began to shift his focus to modern material culture after spending a year with CNRS in Paris (1992-93). Initially he worked on car culture (see Graves-Brown 2000), but he has also looked at shopping centres, the AK47, popular music, modernity/Modernism, and containerisation.
His current research projects include: Contemporary burial practices, the archaeology of King Arthur and Sherlock Holmes, protest on the Newbury Bypass and a cultural history of the “Future”.
