The King first met his future queen, Mom Raja-wongse Sirikit, in Switzerland. It was by appointment. According to an interview given by the Queen, the appointed time was 4 p.m. but the King did not appear until 7 p.m. The cause of the delay was not disclosed. The betrothal ceremony took place on 19 July 1949 and the Royal Wedding was held at Sa Pathum Palace in Bangkok on 28 April 1950. The couple made their marriage registration in exactly the same way as the commoners, with the affixing of a 10 satang revenue stamp to the certificate and the payment of a registration fee of 10 baht. After the wedding ceremony, the Royal couple went to Hua Hin for a honeymoon.
