The results indicated that teachers of primary school children reported the highest
levels of perceived stress. There is some evidence for this difference between primary
and secondary school staff in the existing literature (e.g. Cooper & Kelly, 1993).
However, in the current study, the significant relationship was weak and may not be
representative across samples, suggesting that this finding needs to be replicated in a
larger scale follow-up study. No significant difference in levels of perceived stress was
found between males and females; this is also somewhat substantiated by previous
research (Kyriacou, 1987).
