work settings, job-related envy was shown to lead to extreme general, job and group
dissatisfaction, and even health problems [34]. Similar effects have been also registered
in other settings. For example, Salovey and Rodin [35] show that unfavorable
social-comparison on self-relevant dimensions elevates anxiety in college undergraduates.
Moreover, experienced over longer time periods, feelings of envy were shown
to cause inferiority attitudes, which lead to depression and poor mental health [11].
Equally, we expect Facebook-induced envy to have a negative impact on personal
well-being. We, therefore, hypothesize that: Envy on FB is negatively associated
with Life Satisfaction (H3).
