Furthermore, the spectrumof flower
color mutations was strikingly widened in the ion-beam
irradiated leaf and petal clones, both of which had
brown, red and yellow flowers in contrast to the
somaclones that produced only yellow flowers. These
results indicate that ion beam irradiation could induce
mutations that are difficult to obtain, in other words
novel mutants, at high frequencies and that ion beam
irradiation significantly enhanced tissue source-dependent
flower color mutagenesis.
