Wat Suan Dok
The temple’s offecial name is Wat Buppharam, this temple was built in 1371 by King Kuena of the Mangrai dynasty, in the area of his palace royal park(garden).It was house of the holy relic brought from Sukhothai by the (Ven)Venerable Phra Maha Sumana. The holy relic was divide into two parts(in accordance with the history of Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep), one enshrined on pagoda of Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep at hilltop of Suthep mountain, and other part relics of Load Buddha was contained in site the main pagoda of Suan Dok temple.
After that Phra Maha Sumana was appointed by King Kuena as the first Lord Abbot of Wat Suan Dok. He established the Lankawong Theravada School in Lanna. It was later known as the “Wat Suan Sok School”. After the time of the Mangrai Dynasty, the temple was neglected and became deserted. King Kawila later renovated the temple. A major renovation took place in 1931 when Khru Ba Sriwichai took up the project and built the major vehara, Wihan Luang.
