Conclusion
..The most important principles that can be drawn from a review of different kinds of student activity outside the classroom but within relatively formal courses are:
Out-of-class activities should grow naturally out of activities in the classroom.
The activity must be carefully thought out and prepared.
The students should be carefully introduced to and, if necessary, prepared for the form of activity.
The teacher must recognise when his role changes during the exercise and act accordingly, helping whenever required.
The activity should be integrated with the rest of the course.
The teacher must ensure that the exercise is completed satisfactorily, with appropriate comment and any advice about further work which may be required. Students' work, whether as individuals or as groups, should not be allowed to fade away indecisively.
