I received several documents from the meeting on the second day with the
manager of the CPI about the STRIB process. These documents were reviewed and
entered into an early map of the value stream made in a spreadsheet. Upon completion I
realized the inadequacies of such a map drawn in the spreadsheet. It did not provide the
flexibility I needed to adjust and add information to the map. It was also difficult and
time consuming to enter in the data. Over the course of the study I migrated from the
spreadsheet to flow charting software. This was a much better tool for creating the maps.
I later moved to another more robust flow charting software package that increased the
flexibility of the current-state map design.
