Six months is the time frame encompassed by our categoriza- tion of the stages. Precontemplators were not considering quit- ting in the next 6 months. Contemplators were, on the other hand. The 6-month follow-up should provide a clear confirma- tion or disconfirmation of the utility of stage classifications. The results illustrated in Table 5 strongly confirm the stage model. Although level of manual use reported at 6 months did not significantly differ among the stages, cessation activity and suc- cess again supported stage classifications.
