Several pathovars of Xanthomonas campestris have been identified on a wide range of plants including crops and weeds. X. campestris pv.
poae was reported to effectively control annual bluegrass, and there was a direct dose response of bacterial concentration with annual bluegrass control.
A commercial bioherbicidal product consisting of dried bacterial cells was developed. Successful control using this product requires mowing of the bluegrass prior to application.
