for o-cresol (Hasegawa et al. 1983) give urinary excretion
of 1.83 mg hippuric acid (or 0.94 mg toluene)/min
and 0.92 lg o-cresol (or 0.78 lg. toluene)/min when
molecular weights of 92.13, 179.17, and 108.13 for toluene,
hippuric acid, and o-cresol, respectively, are considered.
Thus, the accounts of hippuric acid and o-cresol
are 100% and 0.08%, respectively. Although the kinetic
parameters may yet need to be more precisely determined
and the present study results remain preliminary,
the three calculations suggest that the account of urinary
toluene is small (even smaller than that of o-cresol) in
contrast to the case of hippuric acid.
