The objective of this randomized controlled study was to
determine the beneficial effect of a 1-year self-management
program which provided supervised exercise and education sessions. After one year, the program was associated with a statistically significant difference in 6MWD, daily physical activity level, HRQoL (NHP e energy and emotional reaction, SGRQ e symptoms) and costs of COPD medication compared to usual care. Administering a simple intervention that combined supervised exercise with standard self-management education yield small but significant benefits compared to usual care.
