In the analysis of common alleles, the number of alleles in the horticultural types correlated better with flower or leaf color (colored flower, concolor petal and art of leaves) than with petal shapes (Table 4). One reason may be the small number of cultivars of the color-type investigated within the analysis; however, the observed result might also be explained if the traits of color-type are controlled by a single gene, while the characters of shape-type are jointly controlled by multiple genes. Further studies are required to confirm whether these common alleles contained in the horticultural types are related to specific genes.
By means of traditional artificial selection, three large groups viz. the Plum Petal, the Lotus Petal and the Daffodil Petal have emerged in C. goeringii
