The deep sea prawn or Northern shrimp (Pandalus borealis
Krøyer, 1838) is a decapod crustacean found and exploited in the
North Atlantic Ocean (from Spitsbergen and South Greenland to
the North Sea and Massachusetts [USA]) and the North Pacific
Ocean (from the Barents Sea to Southeast Siberia, Japan, and Oregon
[USA]) [1–4]. P. borealis is a protandric hermaphrodite and
develops as a male for approximately its first 3 years.
