How dangerous are sea snakes?
The larger of the many species found
in the warmer coastal waters of Australia
produce a very toxic venom
which is particularly likely to cause
widespread damage to skeletal muscle,
and myoglobinuria. Treatment is essentially
the same as for the terrestrial
snakes. See Table 2 for choice of antivenom.
Sea snakes, however, are rarely
aggressive and bites are uncommon.
