The process of socialization is likely to be a collective experience rather than an entirely individual one. In organizational terms, this means that in terms of the ‘socialization situations’, members of the organization go through these either as groups (as in management development) or as individuals experiencing a shared,
institutionalized process (as in mentoring). Amongst the local group of colleagues, the individual is entering into the ‘group culture’, the shared experience of ‘becoming’ a competent member.
