... even though studies have shown that feeding an [infant for- mula] containing DHA alone, (without addition of ARA) leads to lower concentrations of ARA in erythrocytes compared with the consump- tion of control formula without DHA, no direct functional con- sequences have been observed in relation to growth and neurodeve- lopment and this lower concentration of ARA in erythrocytes seems not to be associated with a decrease in concentrations of ARA in the brain.
