2.8. Wind generation
In an ideal EIP system, some means of on-site energy production are recommended. Wind generation seemed like a logical choice for Oklahoma. Research showed that while feasible elsewhere, like California (Walter, 1992) it would not be practical on the Choctaw site. To generate significant amounts of power, wind turbines require a large area, something the Choctaw site does not have in significant amounts. Also, turbines generally cannot operate safely at wind speeds above 50 mph (Lyle, 1994). Oklahoma winds are erratic and often exceed that limit.
