Traditionally, the construction sector has been seen as a low tech industry, with little
innovation compared to other industries (Reichstein et al., 2005, Harty, 2008).
Actually, many of the problems outlined in the introduction can be seen as symptoms
of a lack of new thinking and innovative action. During recent years, innovation in
construction has received increasing interest in an explicit manner, both among
practitioners and academics. Innovation thus seems to be a success criterion to be
reckoned with. There are two aspects of innovation. First, product innovation implies
innovation in the final construction, for instance in terms of innovative architecture or
innovative features in other aspects of the building. Second, process innovation, is
about novel ways to work with the actual construction phase. It can comprise new
ways to organize the work, new construction methods, etc.
