The 1/T50 values for emergence indicated optima ranging from 25 to 31 °C (Fig 2). B. rapa subsp. chinensis and V. unguiculata (25 °C) had the lowest optimum temperatures and C. olitorius and C. maxima (31 °C) the highest. Noteworthy was that B. rapa subsp.chinensis, V. unguiculata and C. olitorius demonstrated a relatively wide optimum temperature range, whilst for the other three species in Fig 2 the optimum temperature range was narrow.
