According to historical evidence, this area used to be a town called “Narang”. It was abandoned after the fall of the Ayutthaya Kingdom in 1767. After that in the reign of King Rama 2 was establish Bang Nang Rom city at the mouth of the Bang Nang Rom canal.
But the ground state is not suitable for agriculture. And move the city from Bang Nangrom, go to Muang Kui.
In the reign of King Rama 4 , Bang Nang Rom, Kui Buri and Khlong Wan Towns were aggregated and known as Prachuap Khiri Khan Province
in the reign of King Rama 5 he moved the district office from Mueang Kui to Ko Lak bay (also known as Prachuap Bay).
In 1906 the monarch merged Amphoe Mueang Pranburi, Amphoe Kamnoed Nopphakhun and Prachuap Khiri Khan , and established is Pranburi province
And in the reign of King Rama 6 changed the province name that was on Pranburi province back to Prachuap Khiri Khan province for to prevent confusion of the city names.
