In ordertoinvestigatethepresenceofgenotypebyenvironment(GE) interactions,first
lactationmilkproductiontraitsofIranianHolsteincowswereused.Thedatawerecollected
bytheNationalAnimalBreedingCenterofIran,Karaj.Therecordswereclassifiedbyherds
in cold,semi-cold,moderateorwarmregionsbasedonclimaticdataofweatherstations.
Theediteddatathatwerecollectedbetween2004and2010,included618,343,472,597and
243,792testdayrecordsformilk,fatandproteinyields,respectively.Variancecomponents
wereestimatedusingBayesian'sGibbssamplingmethodinarandomregressionmodel
(RRM).Foralltraits,afterexaminingmodelsaccordingtoDIC,betterfittingRRMwasthe
modelwithheterogeneousresidualvariances.Geneticparametersestimateformilk
productiontraitsweredifferentinthefourregions.Thehighestgeneticvarianceswere
obtainedforcoldclimateregions;andthehighestresidualvariancesacrossthelactation
wereobtainedforwarmclimate.Geneticvariancesandheritabilityestimatesrevealed
unequalgeneticexpressionofHolsteingenesunderdifferentclimates.Generally,forfatand
proteinyields,thegeneticcorrelationbetweendifferentregionswaslowerthanthatfor
milkyield,especiallyforgeneticcorrelationsofproteinyieldbetweencoldandwarm
regions(rangedfrom0.22to0.48).Thelowercorrelationsbetweenwarmandotherregions,
especiallyatthebeginningandtheendoflactation,showedthatatraitindifferent
environmentswasgeneticallydifferenttraits.Formilkandfatyields,thehighgenetic
correlationsfor305-dyield(40.84)betweencold,semi-coldandmoderateregions
indicatedafewrankchangesofanimalsovertheseclimates.Theresultsindicatedthat
superiorsiresinoneofregionshavetheirgeneticexpressionforyieldlimitedunderother
climateconditionsandindicatedtheexistenceofGE interactionwhichmayhaveseveral
implicationsforthegeneticimprovementofHolsteincowsinIran.
