The analyzer cell in our instrument, shown in Figure 1-4, is a cylindrically shaped ion trap
(Infinity CellTM) located in the center of the superconducting magnet. It is a critical part of an
FT-ICR, as it is the place where ions are trapped, excited, and detected. The cell is made up of
three different pairs of electrode plates, which in conjunction with the magnetic field are used
to trap, excite and detect the ions.
