The Southwest University of Political Science & Law in Chongqing, aka the most bad-ass school in China, offers an optional motorcycle class to all of its students.
The course instructor, named Yuan Yue, said in a Sina News report that the class used to be mandatory for students majoring in criminal investigation, but the course has been optional since 2007. We're not sure who would opt not to get college credit by cruisin' around campus in a motorcycle, and that's probably why the class has proved to be so popular.
Yuan revealed that while the the course is only open to 120-150 students, it's become quite competitive as over 600 people have expressed their enthusiasm in joining.
The instructor explained that for the final exam, students must be able to drive the motorcycle safely on their own.
Police training often involves lessons on how to operate a motorcycle. The class, of course, only gives students basic riding knowledge. They still need to sit the government exam to obtain a motorcycle license.
When offering advice to his students, Yuan tells them to remember that “If the driver panics, the bike sways, if the bike sways, people panic. If there's no panic there will be no swaying, and if there's no swaying, there's no panic.”
Simple enough, but we kind of prefer this Chinese saying about motorcycles: "buy fast, ride fast, and die fast."
On that note, shouldn't these kids be wearing helmets?
