1) INTRODUCTION
The functions of a good introductory paragraph:
1) it makes the reader want to read your essay
2) it tells the reader the overall topic of the essay
3) it tells the reader the main idea (= the thesis) of the essay,
2) THESIS
The thesis statement tells the main idea – or most important idea- of your essay. It emphasizes the writer’s idea of the topic and should answer the following question:
“what important or interesting things do I have to say about the topic?”
A good thesis statement has the following functions
1) gives the reader a clear idea what you will say about the topic in your essay
2) presents your opinion about the topic and is not just a fact or an observation
3) is written as a complete statement
4) does not formally “announce” that you will be writing about the topic.
