Provisional Health Advisories (i.e. guidance levels pertaining to drinking water), established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), for PFOA and PFOS are 0.2 and 0.4 g L−1, respectively [9]. In order to enable a risk assessment associated with dietary exposure to PFAS, the European Food Safety Authority(EFSA) set tolerable daily intake (TDI) at 150 and 1500 ng (kg of body weight)−1 day−1 for PFOS and PFOA, respectively [10]. In 2009 the Stockholm Convention classified PFAS as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) [11] and nowadays they are also categorized as Persistent Bioaccumulative Toxic (PBT) chemicals or Toxic Organic Micro Pollutants (TOMPs).
