Lowering the dietary P content from 0.57 to 0.37% (NRC
recommendation) did not negatively affect milk production
in Chinese dairy cows, but did significantly reduce
P excretion. The results of this study suggest that a dietary
P content of 0.37% is sufficient for cows producing
21.5 kg/d of milk during lactation. Depending on the
feed ingredients used, this concentration of P can be obtained
without the addition of inorganic P supplements
to the feed.
