About half of soldiers surveyed were using nutrition labels in
the dining facilities at two US Army installations and those
using labels had lower fat intake and other healthy dietary
behaviors. The G4G labeling initiative should be furtherevaluated to determine whether the labels are actually
influencing dietary choices in broader military settings.
Similar traffic-light labeling systems emphasizing performance
nutrition could also be useful in university or athletic
settings. Nutrition labeling in a variety of forms, such as
on food packages, restaurant menus, grocery shelves, and
cafeteria lines, provides consumers with information that can
influence food choice and potentially help in consumption of
a diet that is less energy-dense and more nutrient-dense
