The first time I went to Singapore, I was also not terribly street wise. I was convinced that I would be in mortal danger.
The reality was far from that, subsequent visits and an extended stay for work purposes have led me to believe that this is a genuinely safe and friendly place to be. (with all of the usual caveats)
I never felt unsafe walking alone, although not displaying the tourist 'attributes' of an expensive camera etc, is always sensible - no matter where you are.
The public transport system is clean, well-policed and safe. The local residents were always willing to help and offer advice. The bus and taxi drivers were friendly and tried to assist whenever they could.
I am a 'wanderer' and like to walk about to look at the sights in my spare time. I never felt threatened or worried.
I would always advise not displaying large amounts of cash (no matter where you are) but didn't feel ever that I was about to be robbed, (unlike the city where I work)
I had a tumble and injured my leg badly whilst I was there and was amazed by how people came to help.
You will have the best time and I really envy you.
