Based on the original database of the GRASP®
system, 57 different nursing interventions were provided
at least once for a patient. However, some nursing
interventions were grouped into broader labels for definitional
purposes. For example, IV 1–4 Medications
and IV 5–8 Medications were merged into IV Administration.
In addition, some nursing interventions were
grouped according to the similarity of roles and activities.
For example, Post Procedure/q 1 hour and Epidural/
Intrathecal Vital Sign Observation were grouped
under the label ‘Monitoring’ because the activities of
these interventions were very similar, and the intention
was to intensively observe patients immediately
after surgery. The frequencies and duration of all
nursing interventions (including the re-labeled interventions)
are presented in Table 1.
