OCBC Bank has been supporting Singapore Children’s Society as its Community Partner since 2004. By 2013, the Bank’s contribution to Children's Society will amount to a total of S$5 million. Most of the donations assist the Society in the costs of running programmes to help children develop emotional, intellectual, social and physical skills, with the rest to fund the operating costs of running Sunbeam Place, the Society’s gazetted safety home for abused and neglected children.
In addition to donations, volunteers from the Bank often help organised various activities to enrich the lives of children and youth under the Society’s care. These activities range from graffiti painting session at Sunbeam Place, art and craft lessons to hone the children’s creative talents, prawning expeditions, educational visits to the park, to sporting activities such as bowling and kite-flying.
Beyond activities with children, volunteers from the Bank also provide administrative and fundraising support at events organised by the Society, such as the Bully-Free Forum, YouthGIG and Walk for Our Children. In recognition of its commitment towards building a better life for our children and youth, Singapore Children’s Society presented OCBC Bank the Koh Eng Kheng Eminent Benefactor Award; the Society’s inaugural and most prestigious philanthropy award during an awards ceremony in 2012.
Mr Koh Choon Hui, Chairman of Singapore Children’s Society said. “We have set very stringent criteria to be met for anyone to win this Award so; it will not be an Award that will be presented annually. We are delighted to have a very deserving winner in OCBC Bank, a long-time supporter of Children’s Society. We are grateful to have OCBC Bank working hand-in-hand with us and we look forward to the forging of a long-term relationship.”
