Joseph Stefanelli,90,one of the last surviving members of the New York school of Abstract Expressionism,disappeared Saturday at New York University Medical Canter on First Ave.in Midtown.
The renowned painter may have been visiting his wife at the hospital,police said.
He was found Monday afternoon at 44th St. and 10th Ave. in Manhattan and taken to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital for observation, police said.
Born in Philadelphia,Stefanelli served as a combat artist during World War II.
He settled in New York city in the late 1940s as Abstract Expressionism was emerging as the pre-eminent style of painting.
Stefanelli, Who for years painted out of a studio on the Lower East Side, has won numerous awards for his work.
