Orientation
Centered at a T-shaped intersection that marks the merging of Route 211 (coming from the east along the river), 2195 (from the west) and 201 (from Loei town in the south), Chiang Khan rambles from west to east along the Mekong. The main west-to-east drag through town is Sri Chiang Khan Road, which doubles as routes 211/2195. Closer to the river, Chai Khong Road is a narrow lane studded with small hotels, guesthouses, souvenir shops and restaurants aimed at the tourists.
Running parallel to Chai Khong, a riverside promenade shoots from one side of town to the other and is usually full of revellers at sunset. Some too narrow for four-wheeled traffic, north-to-south running sois (side streets) connect Chai Khong to Sri Chiang Khan, beginning at Soi 0 in the west and ending at Soi 29 in the east, just passed a school, riverside park and boat pier. Some of the sois continue south on the other side of Sri Chiang Khan.
