This articlefocusedoneffectofthecontentofbariumoxideonmicrostructureoftheglass–ceramic materialsbasedonthesystemSiO2–
Al2O3–Na2O–K2O–CaO. Thefollowingcharacterisationtechniqueshavebeenused:X-raydiffraction(XRD),scanningelectronmicroscopywith
micro-analyser (SEM–EDS), mid-infraredanalysis(MIR),far-infraredanalysis(FIR)andRamanSpectroscopy.Significant differenceswere
observed inmicrostructureofsilica–alumina networkofglassyphaseandphasecompositionrelatedtochangesintheamountofthebariumoxide
additive. DiscussedresultsarepartofalargerprojectimplementedunderthePBSAppliedResearchProgramme,inordertodeterminethe
compositions ofglass–ceramic materialswithpotentialapplicationasachemicallyresistanthardcoatingsor/andresistanttothermalshockoras
construction materials.
