• He was not yet two years old when Prince Mahidol, his father died.
• His Majesty left with the rest of the royal family for Switzerland, where he continued his secondary education at the École Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande-Chailly sur Laussane
• He received the Bachelier ès Lettres diploma from the Gymnase Classique Cantonal of Laussane
• He entered Laussane University for a program of study in sciences, but the death of his elder brother King Ananda Mahidol in Bangkok on June 9, 1946 changed the course of his life completely into Political Science and Law
9 June 1946- Bhumibol Adulyadej immediately succeeded the throne following King Ananda’s mysterious death
May 1950- his majesty returned to Thailand for the coronation ceremony
1951- an urgent call of his country and people brought him back to Thailand to stay
19 July 1949- His Majesty met and became engaged to Mom Rajawongse Sirikit, daughter of His Highness Prince Chandaburi Suranathand Mom Luang Bua Kitiyakara
28 April 1950- Their Majesties were married by Her Majesty Queen Sawang Wadhana, the grandmother of His Majesty at Sra Pathum Palace in Bangkok
