In February 2014 two children were admitted to Istituto Giannina
Gaslini with suspected pheochromocytoma. The patients' characteristics
are summarized in Table 1. Both patients were receiving amoxicillin
(2000 mg daily) for either antibiotic prophylaxis or Helicobacter pylori
eradication therapy. The 24-hour urinary fractionated metanephrines:
normetanephrine (UNM) and metanephrine (NM) were measured by
HPLC–EC by using a commercial kit (Urinary metanephrines by HPLC,
BioRad, Milan, Italy) on an Agilent 1200 HPLC system (Agilent, Milan,
Italy) following the manufacturer's instructions. A calibrator and two
