Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/ her background and immediate environment (e.g. family, hometown, study/ work, etc.).
Can understand frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance or routine tasks (e.g. shopping, traveling, giving and asking for goods/ services etc.).
Can ask and answer questions and exchange ideas and information on familiar topics.
Can express his/ her feelings in simple terms and express thanks appropriately.
Can handle very short social exchanges, provided speech is clearly and slowly articulated, and can make him/herself understood, even though may systematically make basic mistakes, pauses, and repetitions.
Vocabulary range: has sufficient vocabulary to conduct routine, everyday transactions involving familiar situations or cope with simple survival needs.
Pronunciation: intelligible to listeners who are prepared to concentrate.
